Abdul El-Sayed has won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Michigan—and his positions on Israel, ICE, Palestine and American foreign policy are now receiving national attention.
In this reaction to Sahar TV, Rafi Harel examines El-Sayed’s speeches and interviews, including his refusal to frame criticism of Israel as antisemitism, his opposition to U.S. military funding for Israel and Iron Dome, and his argument that American tax dollars should instead be spent on healthcare, schools and families in Michigan.
El-Sayed has also openly supported abolishing ICE, a position his own campaign highlighted during the Democratic primary.
The video also looks at El-Sayed campaigning alongside political streamer Hasan Piker, which became a source of controversy during the campaign. Piker appeared with El-Sayed at Michigan campaign events earlier this year.
Rafi reacts to claims made about El-Sayed’s political and organizational associations, his approach to Israel and Palestine, his relationship with Michigan’s Muslim-American community, and what his victory could mean for the future direction of the Democratic Party.
Is Abdul El-Sayed simply a progressive Democrat challenging traditional U.S. foreign policy—or is Michigan moving much further left than most Americans realize?
