Other animals use pigment cells to change colors, chameleons on the other hand stretches and tightens their skin to change
color.
The chameleons in this video ranges from the largest chameleon in the world (Parson's chameleon) to the smallest (leaf chameleon).
And you will learn how chameleons tongues work, they are incredibly fast and very sticky. Which is important because
of their diet which consists of fast and flying insects.
Different chameleon species have different colors and different color patterns, a panther chameleon looks very different
to a veiled chameleon for example.
They undergo a big change during their puberty, changing the chameleons colors and temper. While chameleons are juvenile
they can be around their brothers and sisters but after puberty they can't be around eachother anymore.
Chameleons use their colors to communicate to eachother, changing their colors to display their mood and stress.
Chameleons use a jerky walk or "dance" while walking to blend in while walking through the leaves, mimicking a leaf.
Chameleons eyes rotate in different directions to look for food and when it sees something it looks on it's food with both
eyes to gauge the distance so it knows how fast and far it needs to launch it's very long and sticky tongue.
The chameleons tongue reaches its target in less than 30 milliseconds.
Chameleons feet look like mittens and they are very strong, to be able to hold on to branches.
Chameleons dig holes if they are ready to lay eggs, only females do this.
All chameleons shed their skin as they grow, when they are younger they usually do their whole body in one go but
as they age and become larger their do only parts at a time.
Chameleons are cold blooded so they need the right temperatures as they do in their native area so make sure you set up
your chameleons terrarium to be as warm and cold as the area they are from. That way you will have a very happy
and colorful chameleon!
