as posted by the channelWHY DO WE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS? And the History of Christmas!
Christmas is celebrated almost all around the world and Christmas's origins is in Rome, the very first christmas celebration was around year 336. Find out when and where Christmas come from and was started.
In this video you will learn the interesting story about how Christmas was founded and why we celebrate Christmas. You will also learn the struggle of getting Christmas to become a holiday, it was resisted by many at first.
Christmas was outlawed in Boston, USA in 1659 and wasn't allowed again until 1681, but Americans didn't embrace it as a holiday until around 1850's.
Christmas is celebrated in most of the world on December 25th because a roman called Sextus Julius Africanus believed after research that Jesus was conceived on March 25th. With the exception of some countries, scandinavia and the nordic countries celebrate christmas on christmas eve, the 24th of December.
Christmas was not an easy holiday to implement and has been banned and then looked down upon because of it's bad reputation throughout time, for example Scotland didn't accept christmas as a holiday until 1958.
Christmas tree's have been part of the celebration since somewhere in the 1800's and it used to be only the upper class who could afford the decorated christmas tree's, there is a note written by queen victoria in 1832 where she describes a beautiful christmas tree and how she enjoys it. Christmas tree's became available to the general population in the mid 1900's and from then and on not only the upper class could afford the decorated tree's.
Christmas is celebrated with different foods in different countries, the nordic countries eat christmas or santa's porridge and christmas ham. While turkey is more common in countries like England and USA.
Christmas is an old tradition and good food, music and decorations are a big part of the holiday. Santa claus is of course another big part of Christmas.
When is Christmas?
Christmas is celebrated on the 25th December in most countries but some celebrate on the 24th.
