1:06:00Now PlayingHas Iran concluded that it no longer needs a deal with Donald Trump and that time is now working in Tehran's favor?
In this Wednesday Geopolitical Talk, Iranian political analyst Ehsan Safarnejad joins Kevork Almassian to examine what may be a major shift in Iran's strategy toward Washington.
An adviser to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has suggested that Iran can simply wait out Trump's presidency rather than reach an agreement on Washington's terms. Is this negotiating rhetoric—or does Tehran genuinely believe the balance of leverage has changed?
At the center of that calculation is the Strait of Hormuz. New reporting suggests Gulf states are increasingly adapting to a reality in which Iran has demonstrated its ability to exert enormous influence over one of the world's most strategically important waterways.
But there is another side to the story: the extraordinary depth of Israeli intelligence penetration inside Iran.
Former Mossad chief Yossi Cohen now says Israeli operatives “toured” Iran's heavily fortified Fordo nuclear facility multiple times in order to understand the site. What does that revelation tell us about Mossad's reach inside Iran? And if Israeli intelligence penetration was really this extensive, how did Iran nevertheless emerge capable of imposing such significant strategic costs on Israel and the United States?
We also examine extraordinary reporting about the security measures reportedly taken to protect President Trump amid fears of a potential Iranian threat.
Finally, we turn to Syria, where the United States has reportedly brokered a secret arrangement involving Syria, Israel and the IAEA over material connected to a clandestine Syrian nuclear site.
