1:30Now PlayingFor someone with Fearful Avoidant patterns, commitment can feel complicated, not necessarily because they don’t want love, but because deeper fears can make marriage, moving in together, having children, or planning a future feel unsafe.
Two shifts can make a meaningful difference. First, identifying and rewiring core wounds around fears like abandonment, betrayal, or feeling trapped. Second, learning to recognize and communicate their own needs instead of putting pressure on themselves to be the “perfect” partner.
When needs continually go unspoken, overgiving can turn into burnout, resentment, shutting down, or needing space to regulate. Building awareness around both core wounds and unmet needs can help create a different relationship with commitment.
Do you notice yourself fearing commitment more when your own needs aren’t being expressed or met?
