12:15Now PlayingJewish American groups more and more leading the organizing to stop the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory. The Bitchuation Room was joined this week by Morriah Kaplan, the Managing Director of IfNotNow, one such group.
IfNotNow, an organization of American Jews organizing to end the illegal and unjust occupation of Palestinian land, started in the summer of 2014 after a massive air and land campaign launched by Israel. Those who would go on to join the organization found the celebration surrounding this campaign to be an incredibly gruesome spectacle.
One of the most interesting aspects of IfNotNow is its focus on direct action, taking whatever steps feasible to pressure lawmakers to challenge the status quo of Israel-U.S. relations. Civil disobedience, pressure campaigns, and other direct actions are the tools of choice; going beyond fruitless calls for dialogue and understanding.
