Did Trump Just Do What Biden Couldn't?

Trump has used the word "Palestinian" as a slur. He has threatened Gaza with "all hell" if Hamas doesn't agree to a ceasfire.

It looks as if a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas will FINALLY after 15 months of genocide and ethnic cleansing, happen. The Israeli right is pissed they won’t be able to recolonize Gaza, but families of hostages in Israel whose loved ones are still alive are breathing a sigh of relief.

The ceasefire would be a cessation of hostilities and a three-stage prisoner release beginning with some of the 100 hostages that remain and Palestinian women and children currently in Israeli detention centers.

Perhaps the more interesting question is: who got this done? After months of the Biden Administration claiming that they were working around the clock to get a ceasefire deal it looks as though the Trump transition team and his Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff were able to flex the muscle that Biden and Secretary Blinken were unwilling to.

At least, that’s what it looks like from the outside. From the inside, who know what the calculation from Netanyahu is when it comes to finally coming to the table. Maybe the Trump team promised them the West Bank, to allow for more and more illegal Israeli settlements. Maybe Trump promised that he’d allow Israel to simply annex the whole thing.

Whatever Israel’s long game is, stopping the bombs and the indiscriminate murder of civilians is the priority. But this move has the Biden Administration looking even more pathetic on this issue than many of us suspected.

In November, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity. Amnesty International and Doctors Without Borders in December accused Israel of carrying out a genocide in Gaza.
