6:13Now PlayingThis past Tuesday’s primaries have been a bit of a mixed bag. One bright spot is New Jersey’s 12th district, where progressive candidate Dr. Adam Hamawy just won. Sam Seder of The Majority Report joined Francesca to talk about Dr. Hamawy’s history as a combat doctor, and how his experience in Gaza motivated him to run for office.
Dr. Hamawy has an interesting back story. He was a trauma surgeon in Iraq with the U.S., and had volunteered in warzones around the world. He also personally saved Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth’s life. But his experience volunteering in Gaza was the worst he has ever seen. In an interview he did with Emma Vigeland of The Majority Report, he said, “What I saw in Gaza was something completely different at a much larger scale, where there's deliberate targeting of civilians every single day…”
Seeing how the U.S. government is directly funding these atrocities moved Dr. Hamawy to run for congress in New Jersey. On Tuesday night, he won the Democratic primary for his race. The tides are shifting, and there is only so much money AIPAC can spend to try and keep these progressives out of office. LFG!
