People are already worshipping artificial intelligence. A former Google engineer called it "effectively a God." Sam Altman described building AI as "creating a religion." Oxford mathematician Professor John Lennox says these are not metaphors. They are warnings.

Lennox explains that AI already has several qualities we normally associate with God: it appears to be omniscient (you can ask it any question), it is omnipresent (through the internet it is everywhere), and worship groups have already formed to treat it as divine. He argues this is not progress. It is idolatry, because however powerful AI becomes, it remains something created by humans and therefore fundamentally less than God.
