For the first time in a long time, the trucking industry finally has something to celebrate.

Freight rates are rising. Trucking companies are reporting better conditions. Owner-operators who survived the freight recession are finally seeing signs of relief.

But there is a side of this story that isn't getting nearly as much attention.

Over the last few years, the trucking industry has been hit by bankruptcies, layoffs, company closures, and thousands of drivers leaving the business altogether. Capacity didn't disappear because freight demand exploded. Capacity disappeared because a lot of people couldn't survive the downturn.

As an owner-operator, I'll be honest: higher rates are good for my business. But I'm also uncomfortable pretending this is some great economic success story when so many people lost their jobs, their trucks, or their companies along the way.

In today's video, we're going to talk about why freight rates are rising, what happened to the trucking industry over the last several years, and why the cost of this recovery may eventually be passed on to everyone else.

If the trucking industry is taking a victory lap, someone has to pay.
