50:37Now PlayingRobert F. Kennedy Jr., President Trump’s nominee to lead the sprawling Department of Health and Human Services, is appearing Wednesday morning for his first of two confirmation hearings this week.
Kennedy will testify before the Senate Finance Committee. He will then appear before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee on Thursday morning.
Kennedy is among Trump’s most controversial nominees, given his leading role in spreading vaccine hesitancy and COVID-19 misinformation. But some Democrats have expressed support for some of his priorities, such as promoting healthier lifestyles and reining in industrial agriculture and big pharma. Former Vice President Mike Pence is also leading attacks against RFK Jr. from the right, given his past support for abortion access.
The event also comes a day after his cousin, Caroline Kennedy, called him a “predator” who has lied and cheated his way through life in a letter to senators.
The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST.
