In Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin, a Black Somali Muslim woman, wearing a hijab, goes into a Cinnabon at the mall to get food. Her name is Farhia Ahmed.
According to the reporting, Crystal Wilsey unleashes racial slurs at Farhia, which are captured on video. Cinnabon corporate steps in, issues a statement condemning the behavior, says it doesn’t represent their values, and confirms that Crystal has been fired. And that should be the end of the story. You’re openly racist on camera at work, you get fired, you go off and rethink your life. Not in Trump's America.
Someone creates a fundraiser for Crystal and it takes off. Over three thousand donors chip in. The total climbs past $90,000. Not for the victim. Not to support Farhia’s trauma, or therapy, or legal help. For the woman who attacked her.
This isn’t just “free speech” discourse. This is a rewards program for bigotry.
If you’re a right-wing grifter watching this, what lesson do you take away? You learn that if you harass a Black person, a Muslim, an immigrant, a trans person — and it makes the libs mad — you might get tens of thousands of dollars from people who see your hatred as heroism.
