Fact Forward, a South Carolina abstinence-only nonprofit with a faith advisory board, lost $1.6 million a year and had to lay off half its staff after HHS accused its curriculum of "normalizing sexual activity for minors."
Healthy Futures of Texas, which taught abstinence-only sex ed to over 58,000 young Texans, got the same letter. The Dibble Institute's abstinence curriculum got flagged for a module warning teens about pornography — as if the warning were the offense.
A Health Department employee told reporters staff "stabbed abstinence educators in the back." On Thursday, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Hennepin County, and King County sued the administration in a DC courtroom over the new rules.
HHS's defense: the groups only suffered "transient economic harms."
This is what happens when a purity purge doesn't check who it's aimed at.
