12:05Now PlayingJohn Gannon voted for Trump to "get the criminals out." He's a lifelong Republican, a 75-year-old Texas businessman who owns more than a thousand billboards. And the people he voted for turned around and looked at his fiancée, and decided she was the criminal.
Yasmin Carolina Suarez Reyes, a Venezuelan-born Spanish citizen, was arrested by ICE at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport on July 24. She entered the U.S. legally under the Visa Waiver Program in October 2023, filed for asylum in January 2024 before her status lapsed, and has no criminal record. She's also a certified crime victim pursuing a U-visa.
None of that mattered. Eight plainclothes officers swarmed her after security and wrestled her off into a car. She's been held at the Montgomery Processing Center in Conroe, Texas — in a physical jail cell, her attorney says, for doing nothing more than following the law.
Gannon is blunt about the betrayal: "They are picking up law-abiding citizens. They're destroying families, jobs." Asked what he'd tell Trump: "Go after the criminals. We're all for that. But leave the mom and pops and the kids alone."
He says he didn't vote for that. But he did. And his fiancée is the one paying for it.
