As Boris Johnson's premiership comes to an end, his successor - Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak - will be facing a “huge” cost of living crisis and a “fractious” Conservative Party. They'll need to decide whether they continue the trajectory set by Johnson, or forge their own policy path.
Adam Fleming is a journalist and broadcaster whose recent BBC podcast series "Boris", explores the life of Boris Johnson from his birth, in 1960's New York, until the moment he was forced to resign as Tory leader in the wake of the partygate scandal. He joins Rachel Cunliffe to discuss what shaped Boris Johnson and what his legacy will mean for Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak as they inherit rising inflation and a worsening cost of living crisis.
Some are already suggesting that if Liz Truss becomes the next prime minister, she may “find a way of derailing [the] Privileges Committee investigation into Boris Johnson” - drawing comparisons with the government's handling of the Owen Paterson scandal.
