9:08Now PlayingAlexandria Ocasio-Cortez has strongly criticized Major League Baseball's partnership with prediction market platform Polymarket, describing the decision as "sad" and issuing a stark caution about the increasing acceptance of gambling throughout American society.
The New York congresswoman directly responded to Polymarket's social media announcement following MLB's designation of the platform as its exclusive prediction market exchange partner.
"This is sad," Ocasio-Cortez wrote. "I know as a politician these companies are going to spend a billion dollars against me for saying it but pervasive gambling is not good for society. It turns life into a casino, traps people in addiction and debt, surges domestic violence, and fosters manipulation." The statement follows last year's gambling scandal involving five NBA stars.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also received widespread praise from across the aisle from conservatives. For example, Daily Wire host Michael Knowles sent out the following: "This is sad: I agree with @AOC." Erick Erickson, amongst others sent similar tweets praising her take on banning sports gambling.
AOC is clearly gearing up for a run in 2028, either for president or for senate against Chuck Schumer. Given the negative environment for conservatives in the wake of Trump, it may be her best chance to win.
