2:06Now PlayingIsraeli forces imprisoned and beat Chris Smalls, US labor leader, after capturing the Gaza Freedom Flotilla ship Handala on Saturday. Smalls was on board the Handala along with other peace activists trying to deliver life-saving aid (food, baby formula, etc) to Palestinians who are being systematically exterminated in Israel's genocidal war on Gaza. Smalls was the only Black member of the delegation captured by Israeli forces.
As the Gaza Freedom Flotilla Coalition reports: "The Freedom Flotilla Coalition confirms that upon arrival in Israeli custody, US human rights defender Christian Smalls was physically assaulted by seven uniformed individuals. They choked him and kicked him in the legs, leaving visible signs of violence on his neck and back. When his lawyer met with him, Christian was surrounded by six members of Israel's special police unit. This level of force was not used against other activists."
TRNN editor-in-chief Maximillian Alvarez spoke with Smalls just days before the Handala was captured about why he was part of the Freedom Flotilla delegation, even though he knew it could cost him his freedom or his life.
