YouTube Description
as posted by the channelSome of the largest businesses that are openly supporting Pride Month have given hundreds of thousands of dollars to anti-LGBTQ politicians in recent years, proving that their use of rainbow flags in their logos this month is nothing more than an act. Thanks to an analysis by Business Insider, it is clear that these mega corporations - including Amazon, Walmart, and McDonald's - care more about money than they do human beings, and their political donations are a reflection of that. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

So we are now a little over a week into pride month and of course, if you've been on social media, you have seen all these mega corporations here in the United States changing their avatars on Twitter and Facebook to have rainbow colors, saying we are allies. They're sending out positive messages to the LGBTQ community. And that is great and wonderful except of course, for the fact that none of them actually mean it. None of these corporations are actually allies to really anyone. In a recent analysis of political donations by Business Insider reveals that some of these corporations, in spite of their pride month displays and messages, have been donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to Republicans who just earlier this year in February, voted against the equality act in the House of Representatives. The legislation has not yet been taken up in the Senate.
But in the House, hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporations like Amazon, Walmart and McDonald's, flowing to Republicans who voted against the equality act. Doesn't exactly sound like these companies are allies to the LGBTQ community. Collectively, Business Insider says, they have donated over 1 million to lawmakers who voted against the equality act. Getting into specifics here, this is Walmart, the company's Twitter avatar is currently rainbow hued, and the retailer is selling a collection of pride merchandise. But, they have donated nearly $400,000 to politicians over the last few years that voted against the equality act. Amazon has supported the equality act since 2015. At the same time, the company's PAC split donations from 2019 to 2020 donating $659,000 to Democratic candidates and $648,500 to Republicans, more than 460,000 of those donations went to politicians who voted against the equality act.
On to McDonald's. Fast food PACs have also donated to Republicans in the House of Representatives who opposed the equality act, from 2019 to 2020 McDonald's PAC donated a total of $213,000 to lawmakers who voted against the bill. And earlier this week, the company tweeted quote, we're proud of you and you should be proud of you too. But we're just going to give money to the people who want to persecute you, and don't believe that you should have equal protections under the law, because that's what this is all about. For corporations, pride month has nothing to do with pride. It has nothing to do with elevating a persecuted portion of the population. It's because they want your dollars. It's because they don't want to be the only corporation that doesn't do it.
You know, not everybody wants to be like Chick-fil-A, but behind the scenes, they're all acting like Chick-fil-A, fighting equality here in the United States. We also of course have defense contractors that have their little rainbow avatars now for the month. Oh, Raytheon, that's so great. You're, you're an ally. And yet you're selling weapons to countries that use those weapons to kill people for the crime of being gay. So are you really an ally or are you just trying to get more dollars? I think we all know the answer to that question for quite possibly almost every major corporation in this country. Don't be fooled by a couple of cutesy, little avatars or a couple of snazzy slogans about supporting pride.
