On Monday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a bit of an ominous warning about candidates in the 2022 midterms, saying that if the candidate cannot appeal to the general public audience, he may have to intervene. While he didn't mention anything about Donald Trump, this is clearly a warning that if the extreme, Trump-loving candidates that Trump wants in office are looking successful, McConnell might have to get involved and push someone else. On Monday during an interview with conservative radio host, Hugh Hewitt, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell issued a bit of an ominous warning. And even though he didn't mention Donald Trump by name with this warning, it's pretty obvious that this warning was meant for Donald Trump and his crazy stable of 2020 candidates. Here's what Mitch McConnell said. There's no question that in order to win, you have to appeal to the general election audience. I'll be keeping an eye on that. Hopefully we won't have to intervene. But if we do, we will. What Mitch McConnell is obviously referring to here is the fact that you do have a lot of, you know, wackadoo Trump supporters running for office. I think we've got 19 Q people that have announced they're running for office in 2022. So that's certainly terrifying, not just for Republicans, but for the state of the nation as a country.

And Mitch McConnell is out there saying now like, listen, if you put somebody forward, if you put up maybe another Marjorie Taylor Greene, maybe another Lauren Boebert, and if we're looking at that primary and they're gaining steam, but we know they can't win a general, we're going to do something about it. Okay. You're not going to be able to hold us back. And again, he didn't mention Donald Trump by name, but it's very obvious that that is what he's talking about because these, you know, far, far right, lunatic candidates are all hardcore Trumpers. That's what they all have in common. And those are the kind of people Trump wants. He doesn't want people that are going to legislate. He wants people that are just going to go and kiss his ring. That's all he's looking for.

That's all he's asking for and that's the only qualification you have to have. If you believe in these other crazy conspiracy theories, whatever, he doesn't care. As long as you love him, that's enough, but not to Mitch McConnell. But the problem Mitch McConnell has right now is that he had the opportunity to put a stop to this. He could have done this years ago, but he chose to not do it. The party is too far gone for Mitch McConnell's little warning to really even hold any water. You've let this happen, Mitch. You've been there every step of the way to aid it along. You're not an innocent bystander here watching the destruction of your party. You've been the leader of it. You brought this upon yourself.

And let's not act like the crazy people just started running for office once Donald Trump became president. Okay. You have people like Rand Paul, you have people like Marco Rubio, as I repeatedly say, the dumbest member of the United States Senate. Louie Gohmert has been around a lot longer. You've got people like Joni Ernst. You had Michelle Bachmann and Sarah Pailin, right. This wasn't just a Trump thing. So stop acting like suddenly you're concerned about your candidates being a little too extreme and fringe. When for the longest time you were perfectly fine with that and even allowed it to happen. Your threat means nothing because you're the one who put the party in the position that it's in today.
