Donald Trump's Attacks On Mitch McConnell Are Actually Working

Donald Trump has been going after Mitch McConnell for quite some time now, and in spite of McConnell's record as a staunch conservative that knows how to play the game, the attacks appear to be working. A (slim) majority of Republicans now DISAPPROVE of the job that McConnell is doing, a shocking number for someone that has been around as long as McConnell has. For over a month now, Donald Trump has been launching attacks against Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell, calling him the old broken crow, the broken old crow, or sometimes just the old crow. Donald Trump is actively trying to get Republicans elected to the Senate who will vote to not let McConnell continue on in his leadership position. Now, so far he's only found two and of course he hasn't found any sitting members of the Senate that are willing to do that. But certain House members like Marjorie Taylor Greene have taken up the cause and they're raising a stink, telling the public how horrible Mitch McConnell is for the Republican party. And according to the latest round of polling, it is actually having an effect on him. Mitch McConnell now has a disapproval rating among Republicans of 52%.

Now he also has an approval rating of 46%. So, you know, there's only a six point difference between approve and disapprove. But Mitch McConnell has always been hugely popular with Republicans until Donald Trump levied his attacks against him. And Mitch McConnell has always been a very good little Republican. He has been probably the most effective of an efficient Republican in that Senate in my entire lifetime. And yes, he's been in that Senate since almost my entire lifetime. I was two when Mitch McConnell was first elected to the Senate and he's still there now doing horrible things, packing the judiciary, passing tax cuts that he swears are gonna help the, the middle class, but they only help the upper class and they screw the rest of us over, screw over the budget and all of that.

But in terms of being a good strategist, being a good Republican and obstructing everything the Democrats want to do, you can't get better at it than Mitch McConnell is. So I don't want everybody to think I'm sitting here saying, oh, I wish Mitch McConnell had a hundred percent approval rate. No, no, no. What I'm saying is it's ridiculous for a Republican to not approve of the job that Mitch McConnell is doing because nobody's ever done it as good as he does for Republicans. It's been horrible for the country, certainly horrible for the Democratic party. But now all of a sudden just because Donald Trump says, I don't like him, he won't listen to me is why I don't like him, by the way, Trump always leaves that part out. Now, Mitch McConnell is tanking and honestly I love it. I'd love it even more if it weren't so terrifying to think of who may come and replace him if Donald Trump is successful. Is it gonna be a Rand Paul?

No. Rand Paul's a little too levelheaded on like one issue and that is foreign policy, sometimes. It would most likely be somebody like Rick Scott, Tommy Tuberville, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Tom Cotton. Those are the kinds of extremists that Donald Trump would love to see put in place if Mitch McConnell is displaced. And as bad as things are under Mitch McConnell, they're gonna be so much worse if you get one of these pro-Trumpers in that same position, especially if the, the Republicans take over the Senate. Then they become the majority leader. Then all hell breaks loose. But Mitch McConnell's an abstractor, Mitch McConnell's a court packer and Mitch McConnell is better at playing this game than anybody I've ever seen. So even though his approval rating is a little bit underwater right now, I have no doubt that at the end of the day.
