New Poll Shows Democrats With Slight Advantage Ahead Of Midterms

A shocking new poll this week shows Democrats faring better than they have in any previous polls, with a small majority of voters favoring generic Democrats to generic Republicans in this year's midterm races. This is the first, and so far only, poll that has shown Democrats ahead, so it might not be wise to think the tables have completely turned. But it is something worth talking about, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

A shocking new poll came out this week, granted it's only one poll, but this new poll from USA Today and Suffolk University shows that there's been a flip. There's been a flip in the last two months in who American voters say they would prefer on a generic 2022 midterm ballot, 37% say they want a Republican, but 39% now say they want a Democrat. For the first time, again in only one poll that is within the margin of error, but for the first time in a poll Democrats are winning against the Republicans for the 2022 midterms. That's quite remarkable. And again, this is one poll. We cannot put all of our stock into one poll, especially one that, as I said, 3.1% margin of error. There's only a two point margin between the two. So yeah, it's within the margin of error. But even if you factor that in, we're looking at a dead even heat, whereas a month ago, there was a 12 point gap, a 12 point advantage for the Republican party.

Even in this particular poll, they had a 10 point gap in favor of the Republican party one month ago. Things certainly have changed. Now that's not to say again, that this poll is representative of the whole country. This could be the outlier poll, or it could be the one that signals a new shift in the public's thinking. And of course, elections not till November, we got a long, long way to go. But the Democrats are not out of this thing yet. So what do they do now? What do they do now that they have one poll showing that, hey, maybe we got a shot at the midterms? You deliver for the public. There's talk right now about the filibuster and there may be a small glimmer of hope that we can get Joe Manchin to agree to modify the filibuster rules just enough that we might be able to get the John Lewis voting rights act passed. That would be a tremendous boon for the Democratic party. And I mean, most importantly, for American voters. Then there's Build Back Better.

Manchin said he's open for negotiations again, but of course you gotta kill the child tax credit, which is going to hurt millions and millions of Americans. So if you can't deliver something on that, yeah, that's gonna hurt you in the midterms. Student loan debt relief. Biden you gotta do something. You can do things unilaterally on that. Why are you not doing it? Decriminalize, decriminalizing marijuana. Y'all could do that too. So do it. Strike while the iron's hot, right? If the public is in fact souring on Republicans and going more towards the Democrats, I guarantee you right now, it's not because the Democrats have done anything to earn it. It's because the Republicans have done things to lose it. A lot of that has to do with a lot of the revelations that have come out about the January 6th select committee. Like, let's give that committee full credit, you know, I think that is playing a huge role in this. The insanity from certain members of the Republican party in Congress is certainly helping the Democrats.

So now that you're getting people back because the are just grotesquely sick of the Republicans, give them a reason to vote for you, not a reason to vote against these people because it's easier to lose somebody if they're only voting for you because they hate these people. It's harder to lose them when they're supporting you because they're, you're giving them something. So they're souring on Republicans, now is the time to deliver and remind them.
