At his rally in Pennsylvania on Sunday, Donald Trump unveiled a new nickname for Florida governor Ron DeSantis, and it wasn't as biting as many expected it to be. A few days ago, reporters said that Trump was workshopping names like "Fat Ron" and "Potato Boy," but Trump decided to not go that route and completely insult his appearance, resulting in a nickname that fell flat. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins discusses this.

So Donald Trump has finally settled on a new nickname for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. And I gotta be honest, it's a little weak. Like just in my opinion, it's a little weak. About a week ago, we had reports that Donald Trump was work shopping, a couple of possible nicknames for Ron DeSantis. And according to sources, he had kind of, you know, settled on too. One of them was Fat Ron, and again, I'm not making this up. One of them was Fat Ron, the other was Potato Boy. Those were the two nicknames. It was reported that Donald Trump was considering for Ron DeSantis, but at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, Donald Trump unveiled the nickname. And it was not Fat Ron or Potato Boy. Instead it was Ron Des Sanctimonious. Yeah, not, not exactly as biting as some of his other nicknames, but it's what he went with. And, uh, so what Trump said, we're winning big, big, big in the Republican party for the nomination like nobody has ever seen before.
There it is Trump at 71%. Ron Des Sanctimonious at 10%. Mike Pence at 7%. Oh, Mike's doing better than I thought. So that's it. Little, little better. You know, Ron Des sanctimonious, 10%. And that was the end of it, except it wasn't the end of it because conservatives are that Ron, uh, that Donald Trump took the shot at Ron DeSantis. So you have conservatives out there, you have Matt Walsh, you have the, uh, human events publisher, Will Chamberlain. Uh, you have other folks, Red State editor, Jennifer Van Lar, all of them out there furious that Donald Trump is now attacking Ron DeSantis. And that's just a couple. It's all over. Social media. Conservatives are not happy that Donald Trump took this cheap shot at Ron DeSantis, or as he calls him, of course, Ron Des Sanctimonious. Now listen, it's not an inaccurate nickname, right? I mean, Ron DeSantis is very sanctimonious, especially with his new ad that we'll talk about later today, but not exactly as biting.
You know, I think a lot of Trump supporters have to look up what sanctimonious means to even be able to understand that insult. So in terms of effectiveness, I don't think that's the best route to go personally. I think you should have gone with Potato Boy, although I think that's a bit of an insult to potatoes. But this is what Trump has said. He's not gonna back down, even though conservatives are furious right now, that's probably gonna add more fuel to his fire. Like he's probably gonna do it more now that he sees how mad these other conservatives got, because the anger shows
That these people like Ron DeSantis, and that is what Donald Trump has to stomp out. So he's going to have to continue repeating these childish nicknames in order to wear these people down and get them to stop defending. Ron DeSantis DeSantis, of course, is poised to win his election tomorrow. He is already pulling ahead by double digits against Charlie Christ. That is a bummer for all of us down here in the state of Florida. Rest assured I will still be voting against him tomorrow, but he's gonna win. And that sets him up, of course, for a possible 2024 bid, which is exactly why Donald Trump is out there on the stump attacking him now, so that he doesn't have to wait until DeSantis decides to run, get your shots in before he even makes that decision to wound him basically irreparably before he can even make that decision. That's what Trump is doing, and we'll see how many conservatives he has to off in the process.
