Ron DeSantis Gets Smacked Down By Florida Judge

A judge in Florida late last week smacked down Governor Ron DeSantis as the governor attempted to get a lawsuit against him dismissed. The lawsuit was filed by a Democratic State Senator accusing the governor of misusing state funds to pay for his politically-motivated migrant flight to Martha's Vineyard. This story has fallen by the wayside, but there are still many questions that remain to be answered about what happened. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Late last week, a judge here in the state of Florida smacked down Florida. Governor Ron DeSantis attempt to get a lawsuit against his administration. Dismissed. The lawsuit was filed by a Democratic state senator, and it was basically saying you, the DeSantis administration misused over a million dollars in state funds to round up a group of migrants in Texas to ship them up to Martha's Vineyard. The judge, uh, Leon County Circuit Court Judge John C. Cooper denied DeSantis request to have the lawsuit against him dismissed, and instead set a January 30th trial date for the case to not just continue, but literally go to trial in just two short weeks. So, yeah, that could end up being a problem for DeSantis, not because he's gonna lose the trial. In fact, I think opposite, I think DeSantis is probably pretty easily going to win this trial. In fact, it might get dismissed right as it begins.

And here's why I say that it will. And the bad part for DeSantis will be, once again, the public getting reminded that this whole scandal happened. And we still don't have questions to most of the big answers. We don't even know that Perla Huerta has been captured yet, or at least brought in for interrogation. She, of course, is the, uh, individual who went and rounded up the migrants, was working with members of DeSantis staff, communicating with them that, Hey, we got another one. Yeah. So she's kind of at the heart of all this. And last we knew she had gone missing. Hopefully they're still looking for her and I say gone missing. It just means they weren't able to locate her. I don't even know how, how seriously they were looking for her. But the reason I say DeSantis is likely gonna win this lawsuit is because as the governor, he has a lot of discretion about what he can use the money for.

And here's the problem too. I, I would love to see him lose the, the case. I, I wish he would. But they're saying you used the Covid funds to do all this and that's totally illegal. Well, it's technically not illegal if you used the Covid funds to make up for shortages in other areas of your budget. So instead of using the Covid funds for that, he could say, no, no, no, no. See, we, we had a shortage over here in this budget because I actually used this budget to pay for the migrant flights. So the Covid money was used to recoup that. Now, of course there would have to be a paper trail, so we'll see what happened. But DeSantis actually in the past, has been successful

Arguing that same kind of thing. So I'm willing to bet they were probably smart enough to know to not just use the Covid money and pull money out of something else. Whatever it is, it's all a big shell game. But either way, I, I think he prevails in this lawsuit where he doesn't prevail. Again, is the public being reminded of this? It happened months ago, yes. But we are still seeking a resolution. There is still a criminal aspect to this that is being investigated. Members of DeSantis administration are in this. We have the text messages, we have the emails. We know his administration was firmly involved in what might end up being a kidnapping case. So this lawsuit is moving forward. I don't think it's gonna go anywhere, but that criminal investigation that's not even close to being over hell, I feel like it's barely even gotten started. And that's the one that has probably gonna put some people behind bars that never thought they'd find themselves there at any point in their lives.
