5:16Now PlayingA dark money conservative group has been exposed as funding a massive campaign aimed at "exposing" corporations that make environmentally-friendly investments. The group, Consumers' Research, is closely tied to Federalist Society president Leonard Leo, and they are working with Republicans to attack companies that either divest from fossil fuels, or that make direct investments into environmentally-conscious programs and efforts. This is beyond reprehensible, as Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains.

Sometimes I actually like to just talk about stories that I come across that absolutely me off. Top to bottom. First word to last word enraging me. And this is one of those times, it's a story that actually came, uh, from Jake Johnson from Common Dreams. I happen to find it on Truth Out. And this headline is Dark Money Network is helping G O P attack climate-friendly Corporate Investments. Now this article, which by the way is a link to it in the description of the video, they tell the story of how this group called Consumers Research is getting millions of dollars in dark money. And Consumers research is actually tightly connected to Leonard Leo, who happens to currently be the co-chairman of the Federalist Society. You know, cuz all these groups are interweaving and they all share money and all this bull crap. But basically the article explains how consumers research is working with state level Republicans, with national Republican politicians to expose corporations that are out there making decisions about what to do with their own money.
That, that, that's what's happening here because the corporations they're attacking are ones that have decided to be more environmentally conscious with their investments. They're targeting companies that have completely divested from fossil fuels to the point where the pressure that consumers research has put on these corporations has been so intense that plenty of them have actually backed off and they've changed course. They've said we're not investing in fossil fuels. Then they get the pressure from this group. Then they say, okay, we'll we'll put more money in fossil fuels. And it's all due these attacks from groups like Consumers Research and these Republican politicians, because of what Republicans are calling woke corporatism, corporations are going woke, right? We just saw it with Pride month, right? Every company out there had their changing their logos on social media to their pride flags, you know, for 30 days and then erasing it the second, the clock struck midnight on July 1st, but that's woke corporatism.
And these dark Money fund Republican groups are out there openly putting pressure on these corporations saying, how dare you spend money on things that we don't like? Now think about that for a minute. How dare you spend money on things I don't like? It doesn't affect me. It doesn't change my life. It has no bearing on when I wake up in the morning, it has no bearing on when I go to bed. It's not something we really should talk about at the dinner table. It doesn't affect my children, it doesn't affect my livelihood. It doesn't affect affect my wallet. But these Republican groups are so obsessed with this stupidity that they say, how dare you? And we now have confirmed thanks to this report that there is a multimillion dollar effort by these dark money out there to put pressure on these corporations to knock it off. You better start investing in fossil fuels again. You better stop putting pride flags on your thing because that affects me personally.
There's no hope. I have no hope for the future of this country. I have none. Not a single shred of hope. God love you if you do. Okay? I can't, I can't see stories like this. And still be optimistic. We have a political party that is being funded with limitless money because they got all the millionaires, they got all the billionaires, we got the, we got what? George Soros.
