In a bizarre court filing late last week, Donald Trump's legal team argued that the former President wanted to investigate voter fraud because he was worried about foreign countries interfering in our elections. This is the same man who has sworn for years that foreign countries DO NOT interfere in our elections, and he's claimed that any reports suggesting as much were either "fake news" or a "hoax." Now he wants to use those same reports as evidence in his trial. Ring of Fire's Farron Cousins explains what's happening.

Donald Trump has spent years trying to convince the American public that there was no collusion, there was no election interference by any foreign country. You know, the Russia, Russia, Russia, as he likes to call it, was a big hoax. It was fake news, which actually makes it really interesting that, uh, last week Donald Trump's legal team filed a motion in court telling the court that they want to submit classified US intelligence documents as part of their evidence in the January 6th trial, of course, to show that there was massive, massive international election interference in the United States, not just in 2020, they said, but also in 2016, the the same election that Donald Trump swears there was no foreign influence. His lawyers are now saying like, oh guys, whoa, there was big in, in interference. And that is why of course, Trump was, was investigating the results of the 2020 election.

You know, it, it is not 'cause of voter fraud or the voting machines. Uh, we, we just had like so many other countries that were trying to interfere in our election. So that's why Trump did what he did. So it's certainly a brand new defense. It's a defense that definitely destroys all of do Donald Trump's claims over the last few years. But let me read you this from the court filing from Trump's legal team. The indictment in this case adopts classified assessments by the intelligence community and others that minimized and at times ignored efforts by foreign actors to influence and interfere with the 2020 election. President Trump will offer classified information at trial relating to foreign influence activities that impacted the 2016 and 2020 elections, as well as efforts by his administration to combat those activities. President Trump will also present classified information relating to the biased and politicized nature of the intelligence assessment that he and others rejected during the events in question. So if I'm reading that right, they're like, listen, we're gonna show you that foreign countries wanted to interfere and did interfere in both 2016 and 2020, and then we're also gonna show you that the intelligence community like didn't believe these things. And then we're gonna show you that the intelligence community did believe these things.

That's, that's how that reads. Okay? I'm not making that up because you just heard me read it right from their filing. Like they were giving us all these reports and then they were telling us don't believe the reports, and then they were mad. How come you didn't believe the reports? The reports are real, the reports are fake. Um, yeah, this, this seems like a totally viable defense that doesn't destroy your talking point for the last seven years, that there was no

Collusion and no interference. So by trying to vindicate and exonerate yourself in the January 6th trial, you are in fact admitting that in 2016 you had help reaching the White House and you were in fact the one who was the illegitimate president, not President Biden. Certainly not a defense I expected in this trial, but one thing we've learned with Trump, you always gotta expect the unexpected. And there is no limit to how stupid this man can get.
