as posted by the channelHunter Biden, through his attorneys, said this week that he'll be more than happy to comply with the House Oversight Committee's subpoena, as long as he gets to testify in public. Republican lawmakers were furious about this, and they immediately rejected his request. Hunter won, as people on social media and traditional media immediately began attacking Republicans for refusing to do the hearing in broad daylight, instead preferring for secrecy. As we all know this week, hunter Biden through his lawyers, announced that he would be more than happy to comply with the House Oversight Committee subpoena to get him to come and testify. He just has one condition under which he will comply. And that, of course, is you gotta make it public. I'm not sitting for any closed door hearing. If you want me to talk, I'll be more than happy to, but we're not gonna do it in secret. And his lawyer explained in this letter, we don't want it to be secret because we don't want selective leaks. We don't want quotes taken outta context. We don't want half quotes being leaked out to the press. We want everybody to be able to see openly what is being said. We got nothing we're gonna hide. And Republicans shouldn't either.
So after he said, yes, I'll do it. As long as we do it public, we Republicans, of course, immediately we're furious. 'cause Hunter Biden called their bluff. Hunter Biden stuck these Republicans between a rock and a hard place from which they cannot escape. Hunter Biden, right? The man that they say is corrupt and just horrible, evil, grotesque man, right? Just a dumb dimwitted drug addict is what they'd have us believe. And yet he still, he and his lawyers outsmarted all of these super smart Republican lawmakers. Here's what James Comer had to say. He accused Hunter of quote, trying to play by his own rules. Instead of following the rules required of everyone else. Our lawfully issued subpoena to Hunter Biden requires him to appear for a deposition on December 13th.
And then said, maybe, you know, if he does that, then maybe we'll do a public hearing. You know, at a later date, maybe he said he'd comply. He just doesn't wanna do it behind closed doors. So he had a counter offer to the subpoena. But you technically do not have enough of a right. I will say there is a little bit, but not enough of it to enforce the conditions of the testimony. See, that's where the difference is. You could legally enforce the subpoena. You can't necessarily legally enforce the terms. So that's, that's where you get into that little bit of gray area. And that's why Hunter Biden has 'em, you know? Hmm. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee in response to Hunter Biden's. Clever, you know, trap had this to say to the Republicans. Would an epic humiliation for our colleagues? And what a frank confession, that they, they're simply not interested in the facts and have no confidence in their own case, or the ability of their own members to pursue it after
The miserable failure of their impeachment hearing. In September, chairman Comer has now apparently decided to avoid all committee hearings where the public can actually see for itself the logical, rhetorical, and factual contortions. They have tied themselves up in the evidence, has shown time. And again, president Biden has committed no wrongdoing, much less an impeachable offense. Chairman comer's insistence that Hunter Biden's interview should happen behind closed doors, proves it. Once again, what the Republicans fear most is sunlight and the truth. Once again, Bravo and kudos to Jamie Raskin. That was a brilliant and very well-worded response because that is exactly what Republicans are afraid of, right? Because the whole point of this, let's not forget, is, is to tarnish President Biden.
