Special Prosecutor Scrambles To Stop Trump's Attempts To Delay Trial

Donald Trump and his lawyers are pulling out all of the stops in order to delay his upcoming March trial, and special prosecutor Jack Smith is working feverishly to prevent that from happening. Trump has already asked that the judge pause the trial while he appeals her ruling that he's NOT immune from prosecution, but if that fails he has another plan to try to get prosecutors to drop the case entirely. Special prosecutor Jack Smith over this past weekend, uh, submitted what I guess you would consider an emergency filing to Judge Tanya Chut. But basically, Smith had to submit a filing begging Judge Chut Ken to not delay Donald Trump's trial indefinitely. As he appeals the ruling recently where Chut, Kens said, you do not have presidential immunity. Now on Monday afternoon, that appeal actually went to the United States Supreme Court. Uh, as of this recording, we are still waiting to see if the Supreme Court is gonna take it up or if they're just gonna let the decision of Chut can stand, which of course would be the biggest blow to Donald Trump, and it would pretty much guarantee that he's gonna end up being convicted here. Uh, but until then Donald Trump says, I want the trial delayed. I don't, I don't want any of this to happen. I mean, nothing goes forward until the highest court in the land tells me I do or do not have immunity.

And Jack Smith in his filing said, listen, we've been through this song and dance. There is no need to delay the trial as Trump is requesting, we can keep doing our due diligence until, of course, they tell us we can't. At which point we have no choice but to stop. But until then, let's keep this going. But Donald Trump and his legal team have a bit of a, uh, backup plan and the backup plan as described by former US prosecutor. Uh, uh, joy Vance is essentially gray mail. What is happening is that Donald Trump, in addition to delay the trial indefinitely, is Trump is also trying to get his hands on classified information that he swears will prove that there was for an influence in the 2020 election. So let me read you this. This is from US attorney Joyce Vance, who said this, uh, there's a concept called gray mail.

That's what happens when a defendant demands that the government handover classified material and discovery in hopes that rather than expose important national secrets, prosecutors will dismiss some or all of the charges against them. Smith works through all of Trump's allegations regarding election fraud, everything from allegations of infrastructure compromise to allegations that were government agents at the Capitol on January 6th in a meticulous fashion, demonstrating that there is no evidence to be had because there was no fraud. The bottom line is that his efforts to expand the universe of entities within the prosecution team is baseless, and he fails to show that information, uh, he seeks would be material. So just to address what's happening with that, yes, the, the gray male thing is Donald Trump is also, in addition to trying to delay the trial, he's also saying, I need this classified information, not just because there was foreign influence, but because

I, I think the prosecution team is bigger than just, uh, Jack Smith and his team here. I think it's the Biden administration. So I need all their stuff because, you know, there's, there's some things in there. They're not really sure what things they're looking for, but they think there's some things maybe somewhere from someone that might somehow be relevant to the case. And if you're confused, don't worry. You should be, because that's what this tactic is. Let's confuse them. Let's make stuff up. Essentially, let's make these baseless allegations.
