During his speech at his Doral golf club on Monday, Donald Trump once again teased running for a third term in office by telling people that he had already raised a lot of money for his “next race.” He then said that he’s “not sure” if he’s allowed to run again, which might be the dumbest thing he’s said this week since the Constitution is crystal clear about presidential term limits. But don’t get too bogged down in comments like this because he’s just trying to get you riled up, as Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins explains.

As part of his little speech that he gave, uh, at the Republican gathering in Doral, his golf resort in Miami this week, Donald Trump once again teased possibly running for a third term in office. Now, he has already done this multiple times since winning the 2024 election. We have seen a, a, a republican, I, I forget his name at this point, the guy from Tennessee at the Andy Ogles. It is, uh, put forward legislation that would change the Constitution to give Donald Trump the opportunity to run for a third term in office. So they want this to happen, but of course it's never gonna happen. So before I even read you what Trump said, let me preface it with this. Do not take it seriously, okay? I don't want people freaking out. I don't want people thinking, oh my God, he is gonna do a third term.

That's what he wants you to think, because he wants you to be triggered. He is trolling you. It cannot happen. It will not happen. I am not certain about many things with the Trump administration, but this one I am certain of. It ain't gonna happen. So don't waste your time freaking out about it. There's plenty of other crap to freak out about, trust me. But this ain't it. Either way, here's what Trump said. I've raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I can't use for myself, but I'm not a hundred percent sure because I, I don't know. I, I think I'm not allowed to run again. I'm, I'm not sure am I allowed to run again. Mike referring to Mike Johnson, speaker of the House, I better not get you involved in that. He said, and the crowd laughed, but there is a threat in that statement, but it's not the threat of him running for a third term. And the threat was very subtle, and it didn't come across as a threat. But I'm gonna tell you what it was. Donald Trump is speaking to a group of Republicans that he needs to keep in line. He knows that the House of Representatives has a razor thin majority that he can't afford to lose more than two Republicans. The threat is, I've raised a lot of money for the next race.

And the subtle underlying threat of that is, and if you don't go with me 100% of the time, I will fund a primary challenger to you. That is what the media missed in reporting on this story. They're too hyper-focused on, oh my God, he's threatening to run for a third term. No, that he is threatening, but he's threatening the Republicans in the house that I won't give you any of the money I've raised if you don't go along with me. Because he's admitting. He's like, I can't use it on myself.

So who am I gonna spend it on? And again, blows my frigging mind that the media like didn't even pick up on that. 'cause it wasn't even subtle, but that's what it's about. Don't freak out about him running for a third term again, ain't gonna happen. Like I'm, I'm like 99% sure of that, but him threatening these Republicans to go along with all of his horrible plans for this country that is real, that could happen, and that's what we need to be paying attention to. We also need to take a brief second here to point out the fact that he is dumb as a rock, isn't he? Like, I don't think I can run. I'm not sure. Can I run again? Can I not run again? I don't know. Nobody knows. It's a complete mystery. The Constitution is crystal clear about presidential term limits, like it's literally all spelled out there. So if he's being honest about the fact that he genuinely doesn't know, then he really is the dumbest person to ever hold the office of the presidency surpassing George W. Bush as the dumbest president in American history.
