You don’t have to be a military genius not to gather all of your generals in one place for no good reason. But yet, our Secretary of Defense is doing just that.
Defense Secretary and DUI hire Pete Hegseth has ordered hundreds of the US military’s generals and admirals to gather in Virginia for no stated reason.
People familiar are reporting to the Washington Post that the meeting will be Hegseth addressing the “Warrior Ethos” to the generals and officers. No word as to why this was so urgent as to assemble them from all over the planet into one place at Quantico Virginia. A person pointed out, a retired lieutenant general pointed out, that in 1934 the German generals were assembled and had to sign a loyalty pledge to the Fuhrer, Hegseth responded, “cool story, general.”
The order applied to every officer of brigadier general or above and their enlisted top advisers. Commanders in conflict zones were not exempted from this request. Estimates place the total number of expected attendees at over 1,000. Concern, of course, has spread throughout the military and the public.
All of this comes against the backdrop of an impending government shutdown which can leave the officers stranded in DC. In May Hegseth had issued a directive calling for the indiscriminate slashing of 100 generals and admirals. Many political pundits liken the assembly to Saddam Hussein’s 1979 Ba’ath Party Purge. Whatever is happening, it is yet another reason to be deeply concerned as this administration continues its assault on democratic norms, the rights of citizens, and the diminishing standing of the US in the world.
