5:26Now PlayingWhile thousands of residents of Istanbul, Turkey were facing down tear gas and police truncheons in Gezi Park, CNN Turk featured a documentary about penguins out of fear of government retaliation. Sean Hobbs, editor of Istanbul Voices, believes that this was a symptom of government intimidation and media cowardice that had been building for many years--including cover-ups of recent deaths at the Syrian border. What may be revolutionary about the Taksim Square protests is that the media were shamed by an angry public that is no longer willing to lie down when networks like CNN Turk show penguin documentaries instead of the real news.
