Liberal Rips Ed Snowden

Some liberals are critical of the National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. Bob Cesca, a blogger at The Daily Banter and Huffington Post, as well as the co-host of the podcast the Bubble Genius Bob and Chez Show, is one of them. But is Cesca a partisan hack defending President Obama's policies at all costs, or a principled critic of a man who has jeopardized US security for dubious reasons? Daniel Marans, Executive Producer of Take Action News, spars with Cesca over the importance of Snowden's leak. Marans argues that regardless of all of Snowden's decisions, his actions were noble insomuch as they exposed a secret government surveillance program and even prompted modest transparency reforms from the Obama Administration. Cesca believes that the risks Snowden has posed by transporting American secrets to Russia--even without intent of concluding with them--and revealing mundane spying that was done at G20 meeting make the net effect of his leaks more questionable. Could they lead to a tougher crackdown on leakers and an under-appreciation of their merits in the future? Marans is less concerned than Cesca about this. But both of them agree that James Clapper lied to Congress about the NSA programs' existence and should be held to account.
