George Floyd’s brother: Video is “proof” that Derek Chauvin needs to be convicted

Derek Chauvin faces second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges over George Floyd’s death after he allegedly pressed his knee against the 46-year old’s neck for almost nine minutes as he cried out that he couldn’t breathe.

Floyd's younger brother Philonise sat down with BNC host Sharon Reed to explain what justice would look like for his family.

“I’ve seen so many different cases where all the facts were there and nobody got convicted. All you have to do is just look at the video,” Philonise told Reed. “If you look at the video and you don’t have any sympathy for anybody, you have a problem as a juror.”

Hundreds of protestors showed support for George Floyd outside the Hennepin County Government Center on Monday. Trial Judge Peter Cahill delayed jury selection on Monday after prosecutors wanted him to consider reinstating a third-degree murder charge against Chauvin.

For Philonise, a conviction for Chauvin for his brother’s death would be justice for him and his family.
