Rep. Joyce Beatty talks American Rescue Plan, George Floyd Justice in Policing Act

Representative Joyce Beatty, Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, joined The World Tonight with Kelly Wright and Nayyera Haq to talk about the $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief bill known as the American Rescue Plan. With the jury selection process underway in the Derek Chauvin trial, the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2020 waits for approval. Representative Karen Bass of California introduced it in June 2020. It passed in the house and is still waiting on support from the Senate. The Congressional Black Caucus took the initiative to help with the bill and Rep. Beatty says the bill wants to ban chokeholds and reform qualified immunity. "It's about saving lives. It's about making a difference in Black communities so our young men and women are no longer unsafe at the hands of law enforcement that's supposed to protect us," she said.
