Supporters of the ban say it keeps the playing field leveled, while opponents call it discrimination. A pioneer in the fight for transgender rights joined Start Your Day and Sharon Reed to discuss the ban. Attorney Kylar W. Broadus is the founder and executive director of the Trans People of Color Coalition. Broadus was the first openly transgender individual to testify before the Senate to talk about discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace. "I have been working in this movement for decades, and I do know about the use of testosterone and estrogen. Trans girls do not have an advantage," Broadus said. He said the bans target and isolate trans youth who are already at high risk for suicide. Broadus' message to the Black community is that if you can understand being marginalized, then you can understand the fight of the transgender community.
