Gayle says that justice for the survivors and descendants of the massacre could look like a form of reparations.

“For them, it looks like direct payments. For others, it looks like the establishment of a curriculum to teach students about it. For some, it looks like the establishment of a history center to learn about the massacre,” Gayle says. “It’s not just the knowledge but leveraging that knowledge.”
