Former Tuskegee Mayor Omar Neal is the nephew of Freddie Lee Tyson, who was one of 600 men who were a part of the Tuskegee experiment. “I recognized that COVID-19 is real and that people were dying.”
“I understand the distrust that people have in systems and government. But let me say this: If the only reason you’re not getting it is because of the Tuskegee syphilis study by the U.S. Public Health Service, then it’s kind of out of context. You’re kind of doing to yourself what the federal government did to those men,” Neal says.
