3:26Now PlayingNine people were arrested Thursday, including U.S. Representative Joyce Beatty, the chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.
All were part of a voting rights demonstration on Capitol Hill. BNC Washington D.C. Correspondent Bofta Yimam joins "Start Your Day" with Sharon Reed and Shannon LaNier to discuss the event. Capitol police said the group was demonstrating in a prohibited area on Capitol grounds and ignored repeated commands to leave. Those who refused were arrested. Beatty and other protesters joined together in the Hart Senate Office Building as they voiced their support for H.R. 1, also called the For the People Act, which has been stalled in the Senate for weeks.
