Though the former NASA astronaut is no longer pinching herself for making history, Jemison said her job now is to make sure she’s using her experience to “make the world better.” “How do we make sure the opportunities are available? How do we make sure every child has the ability to grow to their potential?” she asked rhetorically, noting that a space education is not without a hefty price tag. Jemison said the answer is the opportunity to award an excellent education, including science literacy, reading literacy, numeracy and understanding about social science and civics, to every student regardless of what school they attend or what area they reside in.
