10:34Now Playing“Start Your Day” host Mike Hill conducts a discussion about athletes and mental health with four-time Olympic Gold Medalist Teresa Edwards and Dr. LaKesha LeGree, owner of Elev8 MD Wellness Center.
Hill talks with Edwards about the mental anguish an athlete goes through while in the spotlight. Edwards feels that athletes are obsessed with being the best at all occasions, and when in game mode they’re wired all the time. Edward talks about how the way an athlete handles pressure is different. Today’s athletes have even more pressures and distractions than in the past.
Dr. LeGree talks about how more athletes are starting to hire more mental health experts to help out with training. Dr. LeGree thinks this can be beneficial because for athletes, they are at a higher risk than the average person for experiencing depression.
