The reason they’re sending in more troops is to ensure that civilian personnel are moved safely out of harm’s way. The Pentagon wants to get it completed by August 31. The War in Afghanistan is the longest war that America has ever been involved in.
Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby spoke at a press conference to give a briefing about the situation and said it’s a “narrowly-focused mission of safeguarding the orderly reduction of civilian personnel out of Afghanistan.” He anticipates a big need for U.S. airlift for the mission.
