7:30Now Playing“Start Your Day” host Mike Hill and justice correspondent Candace Kelley talk about the 12 jury members selected in R. Kelly’s trial.
R. Kelly is on trial for sex trafficking and racketeering. This is the first of two federal trials he will be facing. The other trial will be in Chicago. R. Kelly has denied all of the charges against him.
Kelley starts by discussing the breakdown in the gender of the jury members selected for the trial. So far, there are seven men and five women. Kelley makes it clear that the judge on this trial was in charge of asking the jurors the questions about their hobbies and lifestyles. After the judge narrows it down, the attorneys go through their process. This is the equation that gets a jury of seven men, five women and six alternate jurors.
