2:46Now Playing“Start Your Day” hosts Shannon LaNier and Mike Hill watched in shock as a 20-year situation, the results of America’s longest running war, continues to unfold with the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan.
Those trying to escape, especially Americans, have been told to stay away from the Kabul Airport because it’s closed and no other flights are taking off. “That is shocking. That is dangerous, first and foremost,” said Hill, after viewing a clip of the evacuees chasing a plane at the airport. “But also shows the desperation there for the Afghanistan people as well as the Taliban has quickly taken over, much to the dismay of the US government.” While the US was able to defeat Al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden, LaNier said he doesn’t see how “the US and others could not have seen this coming in some form of fashion,” adding that once US troops left it was basically a “free for all.”
