5:40Now PlayingHurricane Ida intensifies as a dangerous storm and is forecast to reach category 4 strength as it heads to Louisiana.
BNC’s Chief Meteorologist Kevan Smith shares an update on the latest on Hurricane Ida. With winds up to 100 mph, it puts the storm at a category 2.
Smith points out the reason for the intense winds are due to very high water temperatures. He adds that by Sunday, winds will be up to 130 mph Sunday at 7 pm. Mandatory evacuations in several parts of Louisiana have been enforced.
He finishes with tornado safety tips such as taking shelter in a sturdy structure, move into the lowest point of the home or interior and avoid windows and larges panes of glass.
