0:30Now PlayingThe abortion law went into effect today, Sept. 1, which bans abortions when cardiac activity is detected from the fetus.
The period of cardiac activity is six weeks, which is often before women know they are pregnant. Lawyers for abortion clinics asked the U.S. Supreme Court Justices to block the law. The law also allows the ability to sue someone if they aid a woman in an abortion.
A successful lawsuit against an abortion provider under this new law could be awarded at least $10,000.
