2:41Now PlayingOn this day in 1910, the National Urban League was founded by Dr. George Edmund Haynes, which provided aid to Blacks moving from the rural South to the nation's urban centers.
The league built a reputation in advocating on behalf of Black advancement, like its complementary elder sibling NAACP, which focused on the legal aspect of the Black freedom movement.
The national office may be the cornerstone, but the local Urban League affiliates are the foundation of the group. With 90 chapters serving 300 communities in 36 states, affiliates carry out many of the day-to-day operations that help to execute the Urban League's vision.
