11:16Now PlayingGuest host Kelly Wright kicks off “DC Today” and is joined by chief legal correspondent Laura McNeal to discuss Texas’ restrictive abortion law, which has been suspended by a federal judge.
Texas Senate Bill 8 bans abortion once a heartbeat is detected, which usually happens around six weeks and, in most cases, before a woman even knows she’s pregnant. US District Judge Robert Pittman called the law an “offensive depravation of a constitutional right.” McNeal went on to explain that while abortions can resume in Texas for the time being, those who aid in abortions can be retroactively sued if and when the law is back in place. The “best minds in politics” Jessica Stone, Dr. Niambi Carter and Timothy Alan Simon join Wright to discuss next steps as the bill heads to the Court of Appeals.
All this and more on “DC Today.”
