1:34Now PlayingLas Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden is catching quite a few tackles off the field following comments he made about NFL Players Association Executive Director DeMaurice Smith.
While working as a Monday night football analyst for ESPN, Gruden claimed he was frustrated with Smith during the 2011 lockout and reportedly said in an email, “Dumboris Smith has lips the size of Michelin tires.” He has since issued an apology and said he uses the term “rubber lips” to refer to someone he believes is lying. In a second apology after the Raiders’ loss to the Chicago Bears, the coach said he is not a racist and had no racial intentions. Smith said this isn’t the first racist comment he’s heard and probably won’t be the last.
