1:41Now PlayingStores are now pushing for more Black Santas, while also faced with the challenge of finding them during the COVID-19 pandemic.
BNC correspondent Derrick Lewis joins “BNC Live” host Tashanea Whitlow to discuss why it’s important for Black families to see a Santa who looks like them. Representation is important, and Lewis shares the story of Natasha Roberts, who visited Santa for holiday pictures with her children in Houston for the third year. Prior to that, Roberts would travel hours to Louisiana to make sure her children were able to be photographed with a Santa who not only looks like them, but the people they admire. According to one Black Santa, it’s important for children’s socioeconomic growth, their physical growth and emotional growth.
