Since independence from Portugal in 1974, the country, which has 2 million people, has experienced four military coups, with the last one coming in 2012.
West African leaders held an emergency summit earlier on Feb. 3. in response to the recent coups in the region. The discussions follow Burkina Faso becoming the third country in the economic community of West African states to be taken over by the military.
