Cook County prosecutors dismissed the cases of more than 100 people who were arrested by Watts and those under his command. For more than a decade, Watts and his team patrolled the former Ida B. Wells housing project on Chicago’s South Side, where residents complained that officers manufactured hundreds of cases.
Eventually, he was convicted of corruption charges and served prison time.
Joshua Tepper, an attorney with the Exonerated Project, joins Yodit Tewolde on “Making the Case” to discuss.
